FAQ
-
Do you offer international relocation support?
- Yes. For eligible roles, we provide international mobility support, including work visa sponsorship, to help you relocate and settle into your new environment. These relocation options may vary based on individual circumstances. For qualifying positions, our support also extends to your spouse and children, including dependent visa sponsorship.
-
Can I apply if I do not speak Japanese?
- Absolutely. Many of our positions are open to international candidates, and English is the primary working language for many teams. We have internal support and resources to help bridge any language gaps. While not always required, Japanese language skills can be an advantage depending on the specific role and its coordination needs.
-
What does the interview process look like for overseas candidates?
- The entire process can be conducted virtually. Typically, it involves 3 to 4 rounds of interviews with potential teammates and leadership. We focus not only on your technical expertise but also on your cultural fit and passion for our mission to redefine the future of transportation.
-
How long does the hiring process take?
- The timeline depends on several factors, such as the nature of the role and interviewer availability. For locally based candidates, you can typically start shortly after accepting an offer. For international candidates, the onboarding process—including visa processing and relocation arrangements—can take up to 4 months after the offer is accepted.
-
Is the work style “traditional Japanese” or more “startup-like”?
- We are a fast-paced, mission-driven startup. We’ve replaced traditional hierarchies with flat communication and open-plan offices for everyone, including our CEO. We value results and initiative over seniority. Importantly, we prioritize productivity over long hours. We discourage unnecessary overtime, focusing instead on efficiency and meaningful output. We believe that a healthy work-life balance is essential to sustaining the high-level innovation required for our mission.
CEO Message
In the 19th and early 20th centuries, the arrival of trains, cars, and airplanes transformed our world, enriching our lives and industries beyond measure. Today, we are pioneering the next great revolution: advanced air mobility.
Imagine booking a ride on your smartphone. An autonomous air taxi arrives on time, whisking you across the sky to your destination—all for the price of a regular taxi. Just as the internet revolution delivered easy access to information without burdening the user with the task of purchasing and managing infrastructure, so the advanced air mobility revolution will deliver convenient, low-friction freedom to travel. Our mission is to transform society through the timely, effortless and sustainable movement of people and goods.
Following our founding in 2018, we have already reached several major milestones, including the flight of Japan’s first manned “flying car” in 2019. Today, SkyDrive has evolved into a vibrant global company where world-class talent from around the world bring their diverse expertise to the table, creating a dynamic environment for innovation.
We are now at a defining moment in the history of our company. Through our flights at the 2025 Expo in Osaka and further demonstrations in Tokyo in early 2026, we have taken advanced air mobility from concept to reality. However, this progress is only the first step.
Our ultimate goal is to establish advanced air mobility as a safe, daily mode of transport. Our aircraft, the SKYDRIVE (SD-05), has already received over 400 pre-orders and sales agreements from around the world. However, to make the commercial rollout of our aircraft a reality, we must achieve “type certification”—the ultimate proof of safety and reliability, as granted by the regulatory authorities in each market. In close collaboration with aviation authorities in both Japan and the U.S., we are making solid, steady progress toward this goal.
While hundreds of companies are racing to develop viable new forms of air mobility, SkyDrive is among the leading group of companies working tirelessly to tackle the associated technical, business, and regulatory challenges. Although the world is currently in the midst of a major transition toward air mobility, as yet no company has successfully launched a full-scale commercial service. That is why I see our global competitors not just as rivals, but as peers sharing the same mission to pioneer a new aerial culture.
“Leading a once-in-a-century mobility revolution.”
This is a grand ambition, and many challenges lie ahead. But I am certain that beyond these obstacles lies a new chapter in the history of innovative mobility.
We invite you to be a key player in this historic transformation. Your passion and expertise have the power to change the world. I truly look forward to shaping the future of the skies with you.
